Osteopathy FAQs
Is Osteopathy covered under Extended Health Care plans?
Yes, some plans do cover my treatment fees. It is best to contact your human resources department and ask.
How many treatments are usually needed before I see a difference?
When an issue is acute, that is recent in its development; often 2-3 treatments are needed. When an issue is chronic there are so many variables at that point it is really inappropriate for me to give a number. However, I can say that I will not over treat a person. It is my approach to treating people that by the end of the fourth or fifth treatment the patients must be feeling a difference. If not, I then refer out to another practitioner that may be of help.
What can I expect after the first treatment?
Always following the principles of Osteopathy, I treat the body as a whole. Due to this, there are times when some people feel an expansion of energy or a release of accumulated tension, leaving them feeling fatigued. It is therefore best after your first treatment to have the time and space to rest. This may last 12-36 hours.
Structural Integration FAQs
Is Structural Integration covered under my health care insurance plan or MSP?
You might want to check with your private coverage insurance carrier. Some insurance firms will cover this work especially if you tell them it is called: Myofascial Structural Integration. Structural Integration is not covered under any MSP to date.
Are the changes to my structure (posture) permanent?
To be perfectly honest and ethical I would never make the claim that Structural Integration is permanent. There are too many outside variables that I cannot control. The number one variable is you however. If you are an active participant in the Structural Integration sessions and/or series, the work and the changes will be of benefit to you. From your new structure you will more than likely not be interested in slipping back into old patterns of physical or emotional foundations. After a 12 session series according to the Anatomy Trains model we are complete. If in the future, and no earlier than six months, there needs to be some tweaking of the fascial fabric, only 1 to 3 sessions will be required. My goal is not to see you again after the 12 sessions! That's empowering and sustainable for you.
Will this work "fix" my problem?
Structural Integration is not relaxation nor is it repair and remediation like some other modalities. Although long term chronic pain issues can certainly be resolved, this is not the primary intention of the work. Structural Integration is an educational model. Ida Rolf was very clear in that she had very specific designs to place SI in the category of an educational model, not a medical or treatment model. Ida Rolf was also quoted as saying, "True grace cannot be purchased; it can only be obtained through the systematic removal of the barriers which prevent it." There is no fixing in the SI model; there is a chance for you to learn how and why you move the way you do, the posture you carry and how it hinders or enhances your health and well being. From this starting place of awareness and mindfulness, we move forward along your continuum towards optimum freedom and balanced being.
